Plain sawn red oak exhibits flowing open grain patterns and is wheat to pink in color. Red oak is a medium to high-density hardwood with good shock resistance. Red oak will stain beautifully, highlighting the natural grain patterns within the wood.

Quartersawn red oak originates from the same logs that plain sawn red oak is produced from. The difference lies in the manner in which the log is sawn. Quartersawn red oak features straight grain with some fleck patterns in the wood. The wood is wheat to pink in color and has excellent shock resistance and finishing characteristics.

Hard maple is very uniform in color and texture. The wood is white to creamy white in color and may contain minimal dark colored mineral streaking throughout. Hard maple is extremely heavy and very hard. It has excellent shock resistance and finishes nicely.

Hickory is an extremely heavy and high-density hardwood known for its color variation. Hickory varies from nearly white to medium brown and may contain some small pin knots. Hickory exhibits high shock resistance and finishes nicely. Hickory lends itself to lighter stains that accentuate the color variation contained naturally in the wood.

Our Rustic Hickory grade is selected for character. It contains all the same characteristics of regular hickory but is selected for knots (open & closed), worm track, bird peck, and other naturally occurring defects. This grade is selected to show all of the wood's true characteristics as they occur in nature.

Cherry is a beautiful hardwood known for its pinkish color and grain. Cherry ranges from a dark pink to a white color. It may also contain dark pitch pockets as well as yellow shades in the grain. It is a medium density hardwood with high shock resistance. Cherry stains wonderfully and will tend to darken with age.

Knotty pine is a softwood known for its straight grain and knotty appearance. Pine is yellow with closed, sound knots that will vary in size. It is a medium density wood with low shock resistance. Knotty pine is suitable for most stain colors and will darken with age.

Poplar is a medium density hardwood with average shock resistance. Poplar is predominantly yellow and white with streaks of green and sometimes purple. Poplar is suited for painting and dark stains.

Alder is a pale yellow to reddish-brown wood known for its straight grain and color uniformity. It is a medium density wood with low to average shock resistance. Alder shows very little variation in color & stains nicely.

Knotty Alder has all the characteristics of regular alder with the addition of the presence of knots. Knots of all kinds are admitted including open knots.
